About this wine:
Primitivo is dark skinned and makes up most of the blend, giving it colour and aromas of black cherry. Negroamaro, one of our favourite grapes, is a plummy variety with summer fruits and gentle tannins, adding texture and roundness. Nero di Troia is the aromatic element, giving violets and summer berries. Aleatico, a grape you don’t find all too often but has its own cult following amongst wine lovers, is a ruby-hued grape with beautifully floral aromas like rose and magnolia.
The Winery
Tenuta Viglione
Tenuta Viglione was established in 1937 in the heart of Murgia in Puglia, the heel of Southern Italy. Current proprietor Giovanni Zullo took over from his father in 1985 when there were only 3 hectares of vines. Ambitious and tenacious, he has grown the estate to 250 hectares today. The estate centres upon a Masseria: a 16th century fortified farmhouse which comprises a complex of buildings surrounded and protected by walls. At the time, it would have housed the landowner’s family and farm workers. Some of the complex has been converted into hotel rooms for hospitality purposes and weddings are hosted here.
