Canned Wine
There are many advantages to canning wine over selling them in bottles. Cans are lighter, smaller, quicker to chill, easier to open, better for the environment and the wine does not cork. The portability means you can take your canned wine along easily to picnics, the beach or pool, on a hike or enjoy them at a festival. Smaller sizes mean portion control is extremely easy, while also allowing groups of friends to try different high quality wines without wastage.
For the on-trade, wine in can offers customers a quick, convenient serve that tastes deliciously fresh every time. It means no more oxidised open wine, or dregs of the bottle. For our clients, it means a profitable single serve every time that’s easy to store, quick to chill, and exceeds customer expectations on quality. It is the easiest sustainable wine serve you’ve ever had.
Not at all! Canning technology has improved dramatically in the past few years. Aluminium cans are now lined with a hair-width thin polymer that protects the flavours of our wines perfectly. We’ve worked hard with winemakers, wine technologists and canning companies to bring you the very best experience with our wines. Our grape varieties have been chosen specially to complement canning and should taste better out of a can than a bottle. If you are still unsure, give our wines a try – if you do not like them, we are happy to refund you.
Our cans are either 187ml single serve (giving you a little more wine than your traditional 175ml) or 250ml, which is the perfect amount to share for two small glasses or the equivalent to one large glass in a restaurant. The Copper Crew is only available in 187ml, while our premium Canned Wine Co. range is available in both sizes. All our sparkling wines, including The Copper Crew spritz, are in 200ml cans.
We’ve chosen our wines so they taste great straight from the can or poured into a glass. We recommend pouring our wines into a glass to get the most out of the flavours and aromas, but they are equally enjoyable on the go from the can.
Not long hopefully! There is no specific best-before date, but we passionately believe that good wine is made to be enjoyed and recommend drinking them young. We guarantee at least 24 months of great tasting wine from the day it’s canned.
The numbers are flavour categories to help find the right wine for you. No. 1 Vibrant & Zesty is a refreshing white wine, a good example to try if you’re a fan of Sauvignon Blanc. No. 2 Ripe & Velvety is a full-bodied richer white wine, for those who like more Mediterranean, richer whites. No. 3 Fresh & Fruity is our category for rosé, echoing the style of Provence but with more fruit character. No. 4 Bright & Juicy are lighter red wines, similar to Pinot Noir, while No. 5 Smooth & Silky are more full-bodied, dark red wines, often with oak.
For those buying The Copper Crew, the Fiano is a delightful mix of No. 1 and No. 2, the Rosato is a deeper version of our No. 3, and the Negroamaro has the power of a No. 5 with the drinkability of a No. 4! You can’t get more crowd-pleasing than The Copper Crew trio…
Get them to taste it! When the wine is as good as ours, you can win over customers by popping open a can. If you need samples, please just shout – we know it helps you sell! We also know this might not be possible in high footfall environments, so get in touch with our team to organise a sampling activation for your regulars and the word will spread!
Beyond taste, our team have worked hard to create a beautiful-looking range of cans with a tactile feel and all the information a customer will need to ‘give it a go’ on the back label. Make sure the wines are displayed well and we can support you with promotional offers to get those first customers over the line!
Sustainability
Yes. We are passionate about taking a holistic and honest approach to being as sustainable as we can be, while sharing great wines with our customers. We put sustainability into everything we do, from every part of the supply chain to the communities we operate in. We’re keen to be held to account on this too, certifying our ESG+ (Environmental, Social, Governance, and Innovation) processes with Positive Luxury. We achieved a score of ’70’, 40% above the certification standard, and won their ‘Premium Drinks Business of the Year’ award. You can read more about our sustainability efforts and download our Impact Report and Roadmap here.
While producing a tonne of virgin bottles from sand requires around ten times less energy than a tonne of virgin aluminium from bauxite, recycled aluminium cans are seen as the most eco-friendly packaging option. Cans can be recycled infinitely with no loss in quality and require 90% less energy than recycling a glass bottle. Today, cans have an average of 68% recycled content due to widespread recycling technology, with innovators working on producing cans with over 90% recycled content. Logistics emissions are significantly lower using cans rather than bottles: cans are lightweight, stackable, extremely efficient to pack and require much less packaging due to lower breakage rates. Additionally, cans chill much faster, meaning less energy is needed.
Lots! Make sure you download our Sustainability Roadmap here. Current highlights include submitting our B Corp application in July 2024 (we are now in the queue!) and we’ve completed our 2022 baseline carbon assessment with Zevero and now analysing 2023 before beginning a series of product specific carbon assessments.
