At Canned Wine Group, we believe that consumption should be mindful and considered. Thoughtful connections between people, planet and place through wine is our main purpose which we believe goes against the culture of disposability and mindless consumption that Black Friday promotes. As such we’ve always taken a stance against Black Friday. We want to promote shopping sustainably year-round and we believe our wines are fairly priced to enable everyone in our supply chain to be paid equitably for the craft that goes into every can.
Despite continued pressures on everyone’s finances and the temptation to discount, we still feel this message is important and we won’t be discounting this Black Friday as before. However, instead of merely ignoring the heightened awareness and online activity that Black Friday brings, we’ve decided this year that we can make a difference in another way.
Hospitality is struggling, pubs, bars and restaurants up and down the country are closing their doors. If the next two months are poor for trading, countless more will shut in January. The uncertainty brought around by a budget likely to raise alcohol duties will unfairly penalise the hospitality sector yet again in a devastatingly difficult year for the industry. This brings with it challenges for the individuals that make our industry thrive. The waiting staff, chefs, bar staff, cleaners, delivery drivers, warehouse operatives and everyone else that work tirelessly to ensure you have a brilliant Christmas Party, a friendly coffee or that memorable family celebration. These people need support.
That’s why, building on our partnership with The Drinks Trust and Ocado, we will be donating 25% of all revenue we generate from both of our websites cannedwine.co and coppercrew.com over the Black Friday weekend, until the end of Cyber Monday. If you haven’t heard about them already The Drinks Trust is a nationwide charity that supports the hardworking people in the UK drinks and hospitality industry. From grants for those facing hardship, to training and mental health support they offer a vital lifeline to those in need in the industry. We’re offering a small contribution towards national problem. Please do buy something from our websites, visit your local pub, or treat yourself to that extra dessert this Christmas, it all adds up and will make a huge difference.
